We've been called one of the top eight improv comedy schools from around the nation by Paste Magazine.  CSz Classes are a fun, supportive way to learn improvisational thinking, gain self-confidence, develop business soft-skills and meet people.  Learn more about our Sacramento improv comedy classes below and be sure to watch the famous Why Not? video.  Our head instructor, Chris Crotty, is the President and Artistic Director of CSz Sacramento.  Chris has over 23 years performing all types of improv with ComedySportz, the National Comedy Theater, Theatresports, and other organizations.  He has taught improv for 20 years at all levels and has led over 500 public classes.  Chris has studied with instructors from CSz, IO, UCB, NCT, and other theaters.

Beginner (Level 1)

Learn the basic skills of an improvisor whether you want to perform or just benefit from a fun, valuable life skill!  This course introduces improv craft, trust, team building, improv exercises, scene work, and games. It is not focused to ComedySportz or any other specific format, and introduces several main forms of improv.  There are also many examples provided on how improv applies to different aspects of everyday profession and personal life.


This course meets once a week for 6 weeks, from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM.  $120 total (or $90 discount for teachers, students, seniors, and military).  We also offer scholarships and work study for members of underserved communities.  Student are also welcome to re-take all or part of the class at no charge in case they miss any sessions due to work, illness, travel, etc., want a refresher, or want to provide support for a friend taking the class for the first time.

Intermediate (Level 2)

Prerequisite: completion of Beginner/Level 1 (or equivalent)

In this course you’ll strengthen your scene skills including character development, relationships and status, space object work, and more.  Explore story based and montage based long form improv structures. Strengthen your ability to recognize and work patterns and the game of a scene.  The students have the option of performing a long form improv comedy show on the CSz Sacramento stage for an invited audience of family and friends! 

This class meets once a week for 6 weeks from 7:00PM - 9:00PM.  Next session will start during the Fall. $120 or $90 for Level 1 graduates, teachers, students, senior, or military.


ComedySportz Minor League

Prerequisites: completion of Levels 1 & 2 (or equivalent, successful tryout

Members of this team receive free weekly training, perform in shows, and have the opportunity to tryout for the ComedySportz Sacramento Main Stage team. Please contact us if you would like to audition

Private Workshops

We can develop a customer workshop for any level, age, or group size.  We can focus on specific skill sets or offer broad instruction.  Available at our Sacramento theater or on-site throughout the region.
